OK I have a HUGE dilemma! A few days ago, friday, my silkie had a prolapsed vent. The egg was actually hanging out with a membrane wrapped around it and it looked like a testicle hanging there. She had laid her normal egg and this was a second one that she normally doesnt lay till 25 hours later. The egg wasnt any bigger then the first, but it had a much thinner shell and was kinda spotted. I DIDNT KNOW WHAT TO DO! So i got on line and i read where you could make a small incision in the membrane with a sterile razor blade to get the egg out and put some hemorrhoid cream on it to shrink the membrane back in. Of course i washed off the area best i could and tried to keep it all as sterile as possible. The vent bulge did go down a little but not all the way. i separated her from my other silkies in a large cage and gave her some food and water. She ate and drank a little, but the next day i noticed there was alot of pee and poop on the bulging vent, so i didnt give her any food for one day and a half ( thinking that maybe that would help with the poop not getting on her so much, im not wanting to starve her or hurt her in any way, so please dont think that), but still gave her water and cleaned the area best i could and reapplied the cream. I know shes was stressed with the situation so i pretty much left her a lone yesterday and gave her food ( not her normal chicken feed though) and water which she ate. I had read to give her just scratch which i did. The scratch i use i a mixture if different seeds, not just corn. Her vent is still bulging a little, better then what it was, but now there is more poop and pee all over her butt. So this evening im going to get a bucket of warm water and wash her butt off good and reapply the cream. Oh and she hasnt laid an egg since this happened so i dont know if that second egg was "sundays" egg and she wont lay till tomorrow. I was also going to see what happens when she lays her egg, if her vent will be "ok". Im stressing over this cause im at a loss… I have chicken books but none of them tell me what to actually do for this. So heres my questions…. Do chickens survive this kind of thing and what is the "normal" time does it take to heal?….What should i look for if there is an infection inside her?…Could this situation possibly force her into "molting"?( a chicken farmer said that might help her, but i dont have a pure dark place to keep her for a couple days, and that was all the advice he could give me)… What has anyone else done in this situation and would you recommend anything else? Am i doing the right thing?

Please know that I am NOT wanting her to suffer in any way and if she must be put down then, even though i hate the thought of losing her, i would do it. I am not in ANY way trying to be cruel to her or harm her. And I get NO PLEASURE out of this. I just want to do whats best for her, so please help me help her. Thank you for your time and your response…..LEBE

Another weird question I can’t find an answer for on any website:
A lot of people have hemorrhoids bad enough that they will bleed when they go to the bathroom.
Now, this means that fecal matter passes by a wound, an opening in a vein. The fecal matter is alive with bacteria that can, if they get into your system, cause all kinds of conditions. Yet I have never heard of people getting sick. Wouldn’t you expect something like blood poisoning to happen? Feces and open, bleeding wounds aren’t supposed to mix well.
I am obviously missing something here, but I just can’t figure it out. Statistically, you just would have to expect people to infect themselves occasionally.
zbelle60: Usually with hemorrhoids you do not bleed all the time when you defecate, only occasionally. Looking at it from a statistical point of view there simply have to be times when E.coli or othere germs would have to enter the vein.
Your immune system will kick in and produce antibodies and send out leucocytes, but still, sometimes germs overpower the immune system. People die of blood poisoning from small wounds.
haslo: Well, while I know a toothbrush is a haven for bacteria (that’s why I dry mine out and change them regularily), still and all, the bacteria get washed down your stomach – and in general the hydrochloric acid in our stomach takes good care of lower doses of bacteria, else our species would have died out long ago.
And as far as our immune system taking care of small wounds – this is generally true, but not always. So why don’t hemorrhoids ever kill you, but a scratch can?

PLEASE DON’T BE SCARED OFF BY LENGTH. It seems important for me to give you the proper background info on the problem so that you can answer it as best as possible. Please read through it and help me out if you know anything about anal fissures, hemorrhoids, or other problems that can result in these symptoms. I will greatly appreciate all of your help!

Oh, and if it helps, I am a 21 year-old female.

So this is kind of disgusting, but I’ve been experiencing some pain and bleeding on my anus. This started about a week ago. I had been constipated that weekend, and then on Monday, I was able to make a bowl movement, but I experienced a burning-like pain, and when I wiped, there were drops of bright red blood on the toilet paper. After this, my anus continued to hurt off and on for about 2-3 days (although it did not bleed again). Then, tonight (8 days after initial bleeding), after about 3 days of no pain or bleeding, it happened again. I was a little constipated earlier, but I was careful not to strain myself, as I thought that the initial problem was hemorrhoids, and I know that those can be caused from strain during constipation. So, I waited all day until I could easily go to the bathroom. But, when I went, I again experienced a burning-like pain, and there was again drops of blood on the toilet paper after wiping.

I initially thought that I had hemorrhoids, due to the constipation problem. However, I looked up pictures of external hemorrhoids, and I definitely don’t have anything like that. So then I thought I might just have internal hemorrhoids, but I looked in the mirror (a very difficult task, I might add), and I noticed a bright red scratch-looking thing, about half the size of my pinky nail right at the base of my anus. I looked up pictures of anal fissures, and this seemed to fit that description. However, I have questions for people who know something about anal fissures:

Is it possible to experience a few days of pain relief when you have a fissure? I would have assumed that it would be constant (if not slightly-lessening) pain day after day until the fissure healed.

What could I have done to get this? I have not had anal sex, nor have I had anything up there, lol. So how could a fissure could have occured? To be honest, I do remember scratching myself there on accident about 2 months ago, to where I experienced pain for about a day, but I hadn’t felt anything since then, so the two seem unrelated.

I’m very confused. If you know anything about anal fissures, hemorrhoids, or any other problem that this could be, please let me know.

And yes, I know I should go to the doctor. I am going to try to make an appointment soon, but I’m very busy, so I just wanted some background information if I could find it.
