Hi, i’m an 18 years old girl, and i just got diagnosed of polyps on my colon.

I think i have actually noticed that something was not normal with my abdomen since about 2 or 3 years ago, cause i noticed that bright red blood occurs several times when i went to the toilet. but i thought it was okay, so i didnt tell my parents yet. and then about 9 months ago, i told my parents about it and we instantly assumed that it was hemorrhoid (since my father and his siblings have had taken hemorrohoid surgery). but then later on this week, i went to the gynecologist because my period circulation is very rapid, and when the doctor check my rectum with his finger, he told me to go to the surgeon because he’s suspicious of the hemorrhoid.

So right after that, I went to my uncle who is a surgeon (he haven’t know about my “hemorrhoid” yet). And then he “slipped in” a tube like sort of thing into my rectum and I don’t know what happened back there but I hear my uncle told my mom and the nurse beside him to look at those little grape like things. Then my uncle said that it wasn’t hemorrhoid but it was polyp. So I have to take surgery, and then after the polyp has lifted, it will be sent into the lab for a test. But my uncle told me that he wants me to go to another surgeon (digestive surgeon to be specific) before operation. And he said that how can you haven’t notice anything about it until today? You should’ve noticed it, since the polyps are not small (he didn’t said that they were big though). And I told him that I noticed the fresh blood and the mucus, but I thought that it was hemorrhoid.

I know that I will get the diagnoses from these doctors, but since I’m just curious and I haven’t made any appointments with another surgeon yet, can you help me with these questions please?
1.Is it possible that my uncle is mistaken? I mean that it really was a hemorrhoid.
2.If it is polyp, can you give a quick diagnose if this polyps are harmless polyps or not (cancer etc)?
3.Is it possible to have a colon cancer at the age of 18?

I’ve been seeing a gastroenterologist about rectal pain and he suggested doing a flexible sigmoidoscopy without sedation rather than a full colonoscopy because I’m pregnant. He said we can remove any masses we would find during the sigmoidoscopy.

The thing is, he kept reiterating that polyps don’t hurt above the dentate line, internal hemorrhoids don’t hurt above the dentate line yet I have a mass above the detate line that hurts ALOT when I touch it. I know they don’t use anesthetic when they do hemorrhoid banding for internal hemorrhoids, so I’m assuming they wouldn’t use any anesthetic. But whatever it is, it hurts a lot just touching it so I can’t imagine the pain it would cause cutting into it. I’m pregnant so I really don’t want to do general anesthesia.

Does anyone know? Do they numb the area when they remove things from your rectal wall?

Hi, my dad just had a colonoscopy and they found 2 polyps. One they were able to remove but one was big (almost the size of a tennis ball i think) and wasnt able to be removed at the same time. They have taken a piece out of that large polyp to see if it has cancer cells.

Are all large polyps cancerous? Whats the chances it is cancerous?

thanks for your help

A year ago I started to have pain in my rectum. I had no insurance at the time but I got help from charity care. I got a colonoscopy and had polyps removed. They said I had internal hemorrhoids and a fissure. I had operation for fissure and then later for the roids. I had insurance for the surgery but the insurance would not cover it. Meanwhile I still have pain and I owe thousands of dollars that I don’t have. How can I get around this?

For a few months, I have found blood in my stool. I looked in the mirror and found a hemmorhoid or two. I figured that was the problem, so I didn’t go to the doctor for it until a week ago. I have a colonoscopy scheduled on April 19th and am now scared, because my grandmother told me about polyps. by the way, i’m 16. i then read that polyps could result in colon cancer. please tell me. do you think i am too young to get polyps and/or colon cancer?
