2 days ago I had a bowel movement and was shocked to see it was covered in blood. It wasn’t mixed in it was just on the top. When I wiped there was a small amount on the tissue also. Today it happened again but not as much. I do have external hemorrhoids that don’t hurt but they’ve been there for awhile. I wonder if I could have internal hemorrhoids. I have a burning feeling in that area but nothing major. When I had the first bowel movement I had gas and had to go 3 times resulting in the last stool being bloody. I wasn’t constipated so that wasn’t the problem. I have no health insurance and am worried that I need a colonoscopy
Everyones answers have been so comforting to me. Thank you all so much. If you ever post a question I hope that you get comfort from the yahoo answer community also.

My Mum and I both have Celiac Disease. I’m not worried for myself (I’m 21 and since being on a gluten free diet I’ve had 95% improvement), but my Mum is still unwell.

She’s 51, very tiny and underweight. I don’t think she sticks to her gluten free diet as well as she should. She’s still have vitamin deficiencies (B12 and iron). She said that there’s blood in bowel movements, often diarrhea. Her doctor knows and I think she’s been sent to have a colonoscopy, but I’m not sure because it’s not a topic that’s easy to talk about!

So, does anyone know if my Mum is at an increased risk of bowel cancer?

I know some cancers can easily be treated and have a high rate of survival, is bowel cancer one of them?

My uncle (who’s a urologist and has Celiac Disease) was mentioning the high rates of bowel cancer in our country the other day. Are the rates higher because people don’t have the testing done? Or because the symptoms are silent?

Thank you.
It’s gluten, not just wheat.

I am a 29 yr old woman and have had hemorrhoidsds since I was 15. I about a year ago started having bloody bowel movements. Started out a little blood and got heavier and heavier. I only bleed when they are hard and difficult movements. I had a colonoscopy bout 6 months ago and he said I definately had internal and external hemorrhoids and thats what was causing the bleeding. This past weekend I had a little diarreah and some blood from the aggrevating of my hemmroids I guess. This morning is my first movement since the weekend, of coarse it was difficult and bloody. Only difference is the blood was darker and had a not so "crappy" smell. Think there is now more to be concerned with or what????

I’ve been seeing a gastroenterologist about rectal pain and he suggested doing a flexible sigmoidoscopy without sedation rather than a full colonoscopy because I’m pregnant. He said we can remove any masses we would find during the sigmoidoscopy.

The thing is, he kept reiterating that polyps don’t hurt above the dentate line, internal hemorrhoids don’t hurt above the dentate line yet I have a mass above the detate line that hurts ALOT when I touch it. I know they don’t use anesthetic when they do hemorrhoid banding for internal hemorrhoids, so I’m assuming they wouldn’t use any anesthetic. But whatever it is, it hurts a lot just touching it so I can’t imagine the pain it would cause cutting into it. I’m pregnant so I really don’t want to do general anesthesia.

Does anyone know? Do they numb the area when they remove things from your rectal wall?

Hi, my dad just had a colonoscopy and they found 2 polyps. One they were able to remove but one was big (almost the size of a tennis ball i think) and wasnt able to be removed at the same time. They have taken a piece out of that large polyp to see if it has cancer cells.

Are all large polyps cancerous? Whats the chances it is cancerous?

thanks for your help
