My father passed away year ago, at 53 years old from Bowel Cancer. There is a very strong genetic background to his family, with his uncle and grandfather dying of this, and his mother and brother having polyps upon early rectal scans.
I am obviously going to make sure that I get my yearly colonoscopies that have been recommended to me from my GP, but i’ve been told I don’t need to worry until I’m 30. (I’m currently 24)
My concern is that they say to watch out for things, but I’m worried that some symptoms for me might be hard.
I have a chronic medical condition with my uterus (adenomyosis) which causes constant pain in my abdomenal area. This is also a symptom for bowel cancer; one I feel would be likely miss-interpreted as my adenomyosis.
Secondly they say you should have bowel movements once or twice a day and if you go less regularly you should be wary. Since I was a little kid and for as long as I can remember, I’ve never needed to pass bowel movements any more regularly than once every five days. My diet has always been quite normal. High in fibre, I eat a lot of fruit and drink fresh juice with breakfast in the mornings. My mother always made sure we ate a balanced diet with not too much meat and plenty of fruit/veg. This has not changed now into my early adulthood, and I still only poo every five or so days. I never really feel constipated, so i’m not sure if I should be concerned.

we have a 12 yr old gelding. when we rescued him he was very skinny,had diarrhea for months(about 5 months)severe watery diarrhea. the owner claimed it was due to bowel cancer and our unreadable nearly dead gelding had his days numbered. we brought him home to spend the rest of his days in peace. needless to say after his teeth were floated,and he finally got grain(went months with only 4 flakes of hay a day)and all the love and hay he could handle. he has now gained weight,and rides like a dream. my daughter is training for barrels and he loves to practice with her. he also has not had diarrhea in 3 months. the former owner claims the vet told her this but cant seem to find the paper work for his specific type of cancer. my vet says its rare for a horse to get bowel cancer and if he did it would be so painful that the gelding couldn’t function. my question is what are the signs and symptoms? could it be possible that someone is wrong?

bowel cancer is common place in my family history ,i recently lost my mom to which i believe was the culprit too,for the past few years i have been getting abdominal pain and a bloating feeling as well as feeling tired all the time ,i am currently taking the mini pill for contraception at the moment as well as to deal with the period problems i get i am 39 this year any information which may be of help would be appreciated.

My grandfather is 80 years old and has bowel cancer. He has had radiotherapy treatment and has recently got news that the tumor has shrunk, but not gone. What does this mean? The doctors have said there is nothing else they can do but if anything else comes up, that he must go back to them and they’ll re-examine the situation. Will they be able to do anything else if it gets worse? What are the chances of it getting worse? Is there a chance the tumor will continue to shrink and will disappear? Can you give me some more information on this? Thanks a lot. Any help is appreciated.
