Michael above give a very misleading and dangerous answer. First, a lot of advances have been made since 1986 in the treatment of colon cancer. I would bet that nearly every oncologist asked today would say they wanted treatment for this disease if it happened to them or a loved one. Cacner drugs do work to prolong life, but untested "miracle cures" are just quack medicine.

The goal of treating a Stage IV patient is not necessarily to cure them but to give them as high a quality of life as possible for as long as possible, hopefully for many years. There are many chemo regimens that have been well studied over several lines of therapy, and these can add years to a patient's life. These months and years are precious, they are times of mobility and clarity and spiritual enlightenment. My advice is, yes, go onto as many lines of therapy as are practical for you, and as long as you feel up to it, travel and party and reconnect with family and do everything you've always wanted to do. Have no regrets about things you weren't able to do when you're bedridden. If you aren't happy with the choices offered to you at your center, change centers. I wish you the very best of luck and a long and happy life.

That is a very personal decision and I would never tell a cancer patient they need to take treatment or they need to refuse treatment. Each cancer patient will discuss the issues with their oncologist and make their own decision. No one is qualified to answer the "how much longer will s/he live" question. No one knows!

Is chemotherapy the best treatment for cancer? In 1986, McGill Cancer Center in Montreal, one of the most prestigious cancer treatment facilities in the world, surveyed 64 oncologists to see if they would accept chemotherapy treatment if they were diagnosed with cancer. Of the 64 oncologists surveyed, 58 said, “All chemotherapy programs were unacceptable to them and their family members due to the fact that the drugs do not work and are toxic!” That means that 91% of the oncologists surveyed would not submit themselves to the same treatment for cancer that they prescribe to their patients as the best treatment for cancer.

In 1868, a German-American doctor in Philadelphia, Doctor Peter Busch, M.D.,
discovered that a fever of 105 degrees Fahrenheit kills cancer cells without killing healthy cells. German doctors of today have proved Dr. Busch right. German doctors treat cancer patients with this to cure cancer.

In his book, “Superfoods for Optimum Health, Chlorella and Spirulina” Mike Adams said “Chlorella’s anti-cancer reputation is well, earned, too. Dozens of studies have shown it to exhibit truly miraculous anti-cancer effects. At risk of wearing out this metaphor, I have to say once again that if the pharmaceutical companies had a name-brand drug that demonstrated the same effects as chlorella, it would be heralded as a “cure for cancer” and would undoubtedly receive an endless parade of positive press on all the news networks. When it comes to cancer, chlorella is truly that good”.

How long you have left depends on your choice of treatment.
