It seems like every 6 months or so I get another hemorrhoid. It takes a while for them to go away. I take everything the Dr. suggested and they still come back. For those who have had surgery at what point did the Dr. recommend surgery? Was it after repeated occurrences? Any help would be appreciated.

Ususally they suggest it when it starts to really interfere with your life. If you are only having an outbreak every six months or so I wouldn’t think its enough of an issue to have surgery. However if it getting to point where you are having one a month or even more then that then I would just go ahead and get them taken care of. The thing is that the surgery, like any surgery has risks, and is pretty painful so I wouldn’t have a hemorrhiodectomy unless it is really interfering with your life.
BUT if you are just having internal hemorriods then you may want to do something less drastic right now. External hemorriods can only be treated with a hemrorriodectomy, but internal ones can be treated with much less painful procedures, such as banding, or infared cogualtion. Both are not that painful, but they need to be done while the hemorriods are STILL SMALL. If you allow them to get to larg or prolapse then the only option to remove them would be a hemorrodectomy also, which again, is pretty painful.
