It hurts when I pass my bowels…?
For about 8 months it’s hurt quite a bit to have a poo, and there’s often slight red blood on the tissue when I wipe (sorry for details). I never used to strain when i went to the loo, but now as it hurts to go…I probably am doing.
I know I should go to the doctors but i’m only 16 and it’s kind of embarrassing, as you might guess. I’ve searched for questions about it, and most of the answers suggest that it’s hemorrhoids. I’ve found out a bit about them, and treatments. I’ve been using anusol for a while but it doesn’t seem to be relieving me of the pain.
What can I do? I really don’t want to be examined or have any kind of operation to remove them, if it is hemorrhoids that is! What other thing might this be!? :S
Thanks, helpful answers would REALLY be appreciated! ![]()

You would be well advised to accept the advice to increase fiber in your diet as that is the simplest action to take first (assuming that you do not have enough in the4 first place). There is an excellent treatment of dietary fiber at this site that you should read carefully, paying close attention to the recommended daily amount and the foods that contain fiber:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dietary_fiber
If more fiber does not make a difference then, like it or not, you should see a doctor.
By the way, you ‘move’ bowels, not ‘pass’ them.
take some fiber supplements
you may need more fiber in your diet, if you are constipated it could just be blood from getting it out, hope u understand what i am saying lol, but if u are having large amounts of blood get to your doc..i would suggest going anyhow, but try eating a high fiber diet
Try using a stool softener, it could help with the passing and you won’t have to strain so much. But if it is still a problem you should go see a doctor no matter how embarrassing it is.
Go see a proctolgist. If that does not work then check into a local hospital. Blood should not be found unless we are cut. In 1987 I was at the local bar and saw blood in my urine. I went to a uology doctor that I knew and he said that it was a stricture when I got the clap but I have never had the clap so know he was a quack.
My guess is that you have a hemorrhoid and it’s been strained and is bleeding some. If you follow a regime and your careful you could be O.K.
Make sure you clean yourself every time you poo, then if it’s really bad you can sit in a tub of hot water for a time to relax it. Then apply Preparation H ointment in and around the opening. If you want to be doubly sure use a suppository at night. These are easy to put in so after all the other work, insert one of these for the night.
If, after a few days, a week maybe it doesn’t change or gets worse, then see your doctor.
A hemorrhoid is a blood vessel that’s on the edge of the anal opening and is very sensitive. If you strain while going you can rupture these and they bleed. There can be a few to many of these and really create a problem.
First, I bet it is a hemorrhoid condition like what my wife had. Not to gross you out, but it was in a bit, not on the surface, so I don’t know if your medicine will help.
Second, it could be something more serious, and it is always better to catch those things early. Eight months is a bit, so do whatever you need to get yourself to the doctor. When I was your age, I had a bump on my….well, I’m a guy. And I was worried about cancer down there, so I went to the doctor. Turns out it was nothing serious, but it was a relief to know. Keep in mind that doctors view bodies different than the way we do, more like scientists and such. Look for a woman doctor if that makes you feel better.
Hi Rory.
I have also when through a similar experience to yourself.
I had a fistula ‘a small tear in my lower colon’. I didn’t know it was there and I went about a year with this bleeding and pain during each bowel movement. I did as you done and used anusol for ages.
Eventually mine lead to an abscess and I was in excruciating pain with swelling around my back passage, so sever I could not even go to the toilet.
Due to me leaving it untreated for so long I have now had 4 operations and still not near the finish line yet.
So please put your embarrassment to one side and go see your doctor.
If diagnosed early on, it is very easy treated. Don,t do as I have done and left it too long.
Hopefully it is just haemorrhoids and you have nothing to worry about, but it is better to be save than sorry.
Good luck.
