hemorrhoids will not go away?
i have been suffering from hemorrhoids for years now (i’m 24 years old). when i started getting them, i would apply a topical cream like preparation h, and all would be fine days later.
lately, though, the hemorrhoids persist. it seems as if they shrink less easily, and they’re incredibly uncomfortable.
i’ve been concurrently dealing with genital warts. i recently had a procedure to remove some internal and external warts – my doctor did not tell me there was any correlation between the 2 issues, and when i do go for checkups, he is clear to tell me that the problem spots are indeed hemorrhoids and not new symptoms of hpv.
i’m starting to get frustrated. i’m using preparation h wipes off and on, and i’m also using a topical hemorrhoid cream, nupercanal. my colon/rectal specialist told me to avoid hemorrhoid creams with hydrocortizone, as cream containing this can actually promote the growth of more warts.
maybe my colon/rectal specialist sucks. he’s been focused on the hpv, and not the hemorrhoids, and i want to rid myself of both. another doctor told me i should talk to a specialist about rubber banding, but i’m not sure what that entails.
i’m looking for some useful advice from someone who knows what they’re talking about.

The rubber band ligation is supposed to cut off the blood supply to the hemorrhoid, causing it to slough off in a couple days… I had it done several years ago… the problem with it is that it is a difficult for the doctor to get the rubber band positioned at the base of the hemorrhoid, and when mine sloughed off, it left part of the hemorrhoid and it wound up being more uncomfortable after than it was before.
By time I reached 30 years old, I had tried everything including something called IRC (Infrared Coagulation) which is useless. I knew I didn’t want to deal with the problem forever, and I also knew they were never going to just go away, even with drastic changes to my diet and lifestyle, so I opted for a hemorrhoidectomy. It is a very unpleasant recovery, a long week of your life that you will want to forget, but once it was all healed up, it was a relief that the problem was gone.
Make sure you find an experienced colo-rectal doctor. Unfortunately, it is a tear-your-ass-up kind of procedure that hasn’t changed in decades that is most effective. There is some sort of staple procedure called PPH supposedly that is less painful and developed more recently, I don’t know much about how effective it actually is, but worth asking your doctor about it.

Have you changed your diet at all? Maybe start adding a ton more fiber. This can be done by eating Fiber1, WW tortillas, and so on. I usually get probably double my fiber needs a day. I use to get hemmoriods a lot…none anymore.
rubber banding is a procedure where the doctor puts a rubber band around the base of the hemorrhoids which cuts off blood supply causing the hemorrhoids to die. I’ve never tried it.
I went the conventional surgical removal and that we over 20 years ago and it was very painful. Plus a few years ago I had to have some scar tissue removed. As painful as it was I would do it again if I had too. Those creams are a joke, IMHO.
Some things you can do is what ever makes your stools soft. There are OTC stool softeners at drug stores, grocery stores, WalMart etc. Drink plenty of fluids and eat a lot of fiber
Make sure you are doing these couple things as well, it could possibly be part of the problem as to why they will not go away
- Eat Daily Fiber
Since the cause of hemorrhoids often is constipation, you should make it a habit to eat a lot of food rich in fiber daily such as vegetables or fruits. Besides fiber, you should also consume vitamin E during your healing process, since vitamin E can help to quell inflammation internally.
Your daily habit can be the cause of continuous hemorrhoids, let’s talk about several things you should avoid in your daily habit:
- Avoid Alcohol
Scientific research has been shown that excessive alcohol consumption can lead to constipation or worsen current constipation. Because the root cause of hemorrhoids is often due to constipation, therefore you should avoid or reduce the consumption of alcohol.
- Avoid Caffeine
Caffeine also can worsen your hemorrhoids since caffeine dehydrate fluids in your body. Some foods that contain excessive caffeine are coffee and energy drinks.
