Lump on dog… please help?
Before I get yelled at. He is going to the vet tomorrow, luckily I already had an appt for his yearly check up. I just want to know if anyone has experienced this same thing in the past.
My dog is about a year and a half old (he is a super mutt). He was castrated at 3 months. Today he was laying on his back and I was rubbing his belly. I saw what looked like a testicle on the left side at the base of his penis. I felt it and it was a hard round lump, but it has never been there before. It was not tender or anything, but since then I have tried to look for it again so that I could inspect it again, but I have not found the lump again.
I am a nurse and I know dogs anatomy is similar to humans so I am wondering if his colon could have been impacted, or something like that.
He is getting checked out tomorrow, I just was curious if anyone had heard of this or seen it before.
Thanks Suzanne, you think being a nurse I would think of that, but it is my doggy not a patient. LOL Good possibility.

this is called the bulbus glandis, it’s a normal part of the male dogs’ anatomy. It’s actually a pair of glands found on both sides of the penis, and becomes swollen when a dog gets excited, like he would if his belly was rubbed. You can’t find it now because he’s no longer excited.
The gland is the part of the male that ‘ties’ when breeding a female.
Nothing to worry about, but it sure does alarm a lot of people who see it for the first time
