It takes years and rarely spreads to the ovaries.
EDIT: I really didn’t think I was going to need to expand on this. There are not that many factors in staging cancer and the type of cancer, treatment, response to treatment are not part of staging colon cancer at all. Many people have symptoms before it spreads that is more dependent on where in the colon the cancer is than anything else and since two thirds occur in the left colon they are likely to have symptoms before stage 4. Typically a person has had colon cancer for 8-10 years before they have symptoms. As I said it is rare for it to spread to the ovaries, but it is not odd it is just as likely to spread there as it is the adrenals or the bones. All 3 are more common than anywhere except for the liver, lungs and peritoneum which are the most common.
well…depends…may take years…………………that is why colonoscopys are done at 50……………….
It is odd for bowel cancer to metastasize to the ovaries. However primary ovarian cancer can metastasize to the bowel. (usually stage 4) Early symptoms of ovarian cancer can mimic bowel disorders. It may be possible that your primary site was ovarian.
There are many factors that can affect staging. Type of cancer, treatment, response to treatment etc.
You must be going through a pretty tough spot right now. Research your treatment and with the help of your oncologist you will chose a course that is right for you.
Colon cancer rarley spread to organs other then liver and lungs.
As far as how long it takes to get to stage 4, that can depend on the agressiveness of the cancer, but generally speaking it takes at least a few years. Colon cancer is not an overally agressive cancer in most cases, but the problem is that it can be symptomless often until it has already spread.
