What are the chances of this being bowel cancer?
My granda is eighty years old, he has anemia and they have found a lump in his bowel.
The doctors are going to remove it but will be doing a biopsy to see if it is cancer.
I was just wondering what the chances are that it is cancer?
Any information will be appreciated, xx

If his last colonoscopy was in the last 5 years and was clear the chances are low. Most colon cancers occur in patients between 65-85 years old.
Fairly low. At her Age- it could be ANYthing… -And most of THOSE would be Benign. So don’t worry about it.
I can’t speak as to the likelihood, but it could be a polyp, too. And colon (bowel) cancer is one of the most treatable kinds. At stage 1, the tumor hasn’t invaded the wall of the colon yet, and it can be removed during a routine colonoscopy. The recovery rate for that is over 90%. At stage 2, the tumor has invaded the wall, but it hasn’t spread any further. They will do what is called a "resectioning" then to remove that part of the colon, and possibly do chemo. At that point, the success rate is still about 80%. At stage 3, the tumor has gone through the colon wall and into the lymph nodes. They will definitely do surgery and chemo at that point. With that, the success rate is still about 75%. I was at stage 3, and only realized it because I started having alternating constipation and diarrhea, and having intense pain (it was bigger than the diameter of my colon). Your grandfather’s odds are pretty good.
